The story behind the journey

Who I Am

Meet Brooke Lance

Brooke Lance

I’m Brooke Lance, an 18-year-old athlete from Minnesota standing at 5’9″. My athletic journey started with dance, which I pursued for most of my life. Dance gave me the foundational athleticism, discipline, and coordination that would later fuel my transition into a completely different sport — dunking.

In 2022, I made the decision to seriously pursue dunking and enrolled in JumpX Training, a program focused on vertical leap development and explosive power. Since then, I’ve been on a dedicated path toward achieving what few female athletes have accomplished — slamming the ball through a standard 10-foot basketball rim.

My Journey

From Dance to Dunking

Growing up in Minnesota, I developed a deep love for dance that shaped my athletic foundation. The discipline, body control, and explosive movement I learned through years of dance training gave me a unique advantage when I transitioned to vertical jump training.

My first major milestone came during the summer when I successfully completed my first dunk at a 9’6″ rim height. That moment confirmed that the impossible was becoming possible. Since then, I’ve continued pushing the boundaries, progressing through rim grabs at increasing heights until finally grabbing the full 10-foot rim.

In the summer of 2024, I first visited The Dunk Camp to watch, learn, and experience the atmosphere. Being around so many talented dunkers was incredibly motivating, and I continued showcasing various dunks including lob passes and creative slams on lower rims. I’ve also been involved with the Minnesota Dunk Squad, attending dunk sessions and training alongside other passionate dunkers. In 2025, I officially attended The Dunk Camp for the first time as a competitor, entering the women’s contest. The experience of competing on that stage was incredible and motivated me to keep pushing forward.

My Mission

Pushing Women’s Dunking Forward

My journey is about more than just personal achievement. I’m on a mission to grow the sport of dunking on the female side. Women’s dunking has historically been rare — the first recorded dunk in women’s college basketball happened in 1984 when Georgeann Wells made history, and Lisa Leslie became the first to dunk in a WNBA game in 2002.

What makes my approach unique is that I’m doing this at a grassroots level. At 5’9″, I’m not the tallest athlete, but through dedicated training with programs like JumpX Training and participation in events like The Dunk Camp, I’m showing that dunking is accessible to female athletes who are willing to put in the work.

Through my social media presence and content creation, I’m building a supportive community that motivates a new generation of female athletes to reach for the rim.
